TransHospital selected by the government of Thailand

October 23, 2009

EADS’ TransHospital® rescue station ensures the availability of medical treatment even in remote locations.

EADS has added to its portfolio of international TransHospital mobile shelter customers with a Royal Thai Air Force order for a system to be utilized on quick-response deployments in military and disaster-related operations.

Delivery to the Thai military service is scheduled for 2010, with this TransHospital rescue station featuring the capacity to treat five in-patients and 10 out-patients simultaneously – and the potential to expand by converting accommodations for staff members.

The rescue station comprises two large tents, rescue container, connector module, water and power supply, as well as a transport container.

It is similar in configuration to the TransHospital Future Combat Support Hospital currently proposed for the U.S. Army’s Future Medical Shelter System requirement.

EADS’ TransHospital systems can be made fully operational by six individuals within a period of only four hours. Subsequently, they can ensure autonomous operation for 72 hours without requiring any logistic support.  In addition to their transportability by truck, train or vessel, the system for Thailand will have added flexibility with its capability to be flown to operations aboard the C-130 and other similar airlifters.

TransHospital systems already have been delivered to armed forces around the world, including the German Bundeswehr – which is one of the largest military users today. These facilities perform a full range of medical services, treatment and diagnostics – from surgeries, burn treatment and dentistry to food chemistry, microbiology and patient recovery. TransHospital shelters also are in the inventories of the Spanish Air Force, Singapore Navy, United Arab Emirates Army, and Slovenian Army.

The operational capabilities of TransHospital have been demonstrated in military service and during disaster relief missions.  Germany has used the system as a 260-bed field hospital in Kosovo and for combat support in Kabul, Afghanistan.  In 2005, TransHospital was deployed as a rescue station in the U.S. Gulf Coast to support relief operations following hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  Another rescue station was set up in Indonesia beginning in early 2006, providing relief for a region hit particularly hard by the Indian Ocean tsunami.
